Hi, My name is John and I’m a documentary-lifestyle photographer. Coming from a documentary wedding photography background, I love to immerse myself in new environments and create genuine images of my couples without intervention. I’m now a new father to my daughter Ottilie/Ots/Ottie/Otster/Otty Bots, so I began taking images of her without any direction, doing the seemingly mundane daily routines. Mummy reading a story before bed, changing her clothes, eating breakfast are just some of the things I photographed but of course I wasn’t in any of them!
What I learned is that these photographs showed her individualism, her spark, her little quirky character emerging. But just as important, our family’s individualism and how we all interact within our home. It’s this concept that is weirdly so alien to a family shoot. The images show what toys Ottie was playing with, the little table she had to eat her breakfast on, all the things that tie that photograph to a specific place and time. I was hooked!
Below are a few images I’ve taken of Ottie over the last couple of years.
